The Permanent Representation of Italy to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) hosted a reception at ICAO Headquarters to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the Italian Republic. Held in coincidence with the beginning of the 238th Session of the ICAO Council, the event brought together diplomatic representatives from the ICAO Secretariat and the Member States, including the President of the Council and the Secretary General, aviation industry stakeholders, and members of Montreal’s Italian community.
In his address, Ambassador Sergio Martes, Permanent Representative of Italy to ICAO, recalled the historic significance of the recurrence of the Republic Day and highlighted Italy’s leading role in civil aviation, from aerospace manufacturing and air navigation services to investments in sustainability and innovation. He also reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to supporting ICAO through expertise, resources, and international cooperation.
The President of the ICAO Council, Toshiyuki Onuma, who attended alongside Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar, expressed appreciation for Italy’s longstanding contribution to the Organization and its active role in advancing international civil aviation priorities.
The evening concluded with a celebration of Italy’s culture, traditions, and excellence through Italian cuisine and promotional videos showcasing the country’s rich heritage and innovation.
