Permanent Representative of Italy to ICAO
Ambassador Sergio Martes is the Permanent Representative of Italy to the ICAO Council – International Civil Aviation Organization, headquartered in Montreal.
A career diplomat, he was officially accredited to ICAO starting in late June 2023, assuming the leadership of the Italian Permanent Delegation to the Organization. In his role, he represents Italy at the Council’s meetings and in various multilateral forums dedicated to international civil aviation—coordinating with key Italian institutions involved in the aviation sector, primarily the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) and ENAC (National Civil Aviation Authority)—advancing the interests of Italy in strategic areas such as flight safety, environmental sustainability, operational efficiency, and technological innovation.
🌐 Experience and Previous Assignments
Throughout his diplomatic career, Ambassador Martes has served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Rome and at several foreign missions, including in Freiburg, Kyiv, Sydney, and Managua, dealing with international cooperation, consular affairs, and promoting Italy’s political, economic, and commercial interests, both bilaterally and multilaterally.
