Montreal, 2–4 June 2026 – The “Aviation Climate Week 2026” was held from 2 to 4 June.

The event, organized by ICAO, is dedicated to the actions to be undertaken for the reduction and offsetting of CO2 emissions, to address climate change, and to promote environmental sustainability in the civil aviation sector.

Together with the Representatives of the Italian Delegation to ICAO, ENAC was represented by Mr. Andrea Marotta, Director for Environment and Sustainable Mobility, and Mr. Vittorio Cipolla, Head of the National Competent Authority Office – ReFuelEU Aviation.

The Environment Week, which symbolically preceded World Environment Day and marked the tenth anniversary of the agreement establishing CORSIA – the global scheme for the reduction and offsetting of CO2 emissions – once again proved to be an important opportunity for dialogue among Member States, international organizations, and stakeholders from the aeronautical sector and beyond.

Ambassador Sergio Martes, Permanent Representative of Italy to ICAO, took part, together with Director Andrea Marotta, in the meeting between the Organization’s leadership (primarily President Onuma and Secretary General Salazar) and the donor States of the ACT-SAF project (https://italiarappicao.esteri.it/it/news/dalla_rappresentanza/2025/10/programma-act-saf-icao/). Recalling the value of the initiative within the framework of multilateral cooperation and the Organization’s strategic objective of No Country Left Behind, Ambassador Martes emphasized the importance of giving concrete follow-up to the feasibility studies on SAF production published under that project, through the strengthening of FINVESTHUB (https://www.icao.int/finvest), the platform established by ICAO to facilitate connections between international air transport decarbonization projects and potential sources of financing.

Through its participation in Aviation Climate Week 2026, Italy therefore further confirms its commitment to more sustainable air transport, within the framework of European and international environmental and climate objectives.
