Montréal, 2–4 June 2025 – The Italian Delegation to ICAO actively participated in the “Aviation Climate Week 2025,” a triennial event organized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), dedicated to climate action in the civil aviation sector.
Among the Italian participants, Eng. Vittorio Cipolla represented ENAC, attending on behalf of the Environment and Sustainable Mobility Directorate.
The Climate Week provided an important opportunity for dialogue among Member States, international organizations, and industry stakeholders to share progress toward the global goal of carbon neutrality by 2050 (Net Zero 2050), also in view of the upcoming 42nd ICAO Assembly, scheduled for autumn 2025.
ENAC continues to play a leading role in the decarbonization process of air transport, contributing technical and regulatory expertise to the introduction of innovative and sustainable solutions, in synergy with key industry players.
Among the most significant initiatives, the event celebrated the third anniversary of the ICAO ACT‑SAF program (Assistance, Capacity-building and Training for Sustainable Aviation Fuels), in which Italy actively participates also through financial support from ENAC. This strategic program aims to assist Member States in the various stages of development and implementation of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) through training activities, feasibility studies, and the promotion of effective partnerships.
Ambassador Sergio Martes, Italy’s Permanent Representative to ICAO, emphasized the value of the ACT‑SAF initiative as a multilateral cooperation tool, consistent with ICAO’s “No Country Left Behind” (NCLB) principle and particularly focused on strengthening collaboration with countries in the African continent.
Italy’s participation in ICAO Climate Week 2025 confirms our country’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive aviation within the framework of international environmental and climate goals.
